Teignmouth's older streets were laid out long before anyone imagined two cars per household, let alone a car plus a boat trailer. Parking is the town's perennial argument, and anything that has to live on the road — a trailer, a dinghy, a caravan — is both a nuisance and a soft target.

The town also has a strong small-boat culture, helped along by the estuary and the back beach, and small boats generate a lot of equipment. Outboards, sails, fenders, oars, wetsuits, trailers: none of it belongs in a hallway, and much of it does badly in a damp shed.

Add the seafront businesses, which have the same winter problem as everywhere else along this coast, and the picture is consistent. What people need here is somewhere dry and secure a short drive away, with room to turn a trailer round without three-point-turning on a residential street.

Our containers are 5ft (5 x 8 x 9ft), 10ft (10 x 8 x 9ft) and 20ft (20 x 8 x 8ft). As a rule of thumb a 5ft holds a single room's worth of things, a 10ft holds roughly a one-bedroom flat's worth of furniture, and a 20ft holds a three-bedroom home. Note the 5ft and 10ft are 9ft high, a foot taller inside than the 20ft. If you're unsure, tell us what you're storing and we'll match you up.

Yes — the yard is fully fenced with a gated entrance and 24/7 CCTV across the site. You keep the only key to your padlock.

Standard rates are based on a 3-month minimum. We can do shorter periods at a slightly different rate — just ask.

How do I pay?

A £50 refundable deposit (which covers the padlock) plus your first month is paid on the day you move in. Bank transfer or cash, whichever you prefer.
